Changes in libraries for 2026-27
We’re introducing a series of changes in libraries ahead of the 2026–27 academic year. These include important changes to the operation of the Business and Music libraries, the introduction of consistent opening hours and new study areas.
Changes to Business and Music libraries
As part of the Libraries Student Support project started in 2024, we’ve been examining how library spaces are used and how we can respond to changing user needs and provide a consistent library service across our campuses.
As a result, we’re making some important changes to Business Library and Denis Arnold Music Library. These changes have been previously shared with staff and students in the Business School and Department of Music.
Business Library
From Saturday 20 June, the Business Library on Jubilee Campus will no longer be a staffed library space, however, our friendly and helpful Library staff will still be available to support you from our other library locations and by email, phone and live chat.
Access to library resources
You will continue to have access to the materials you need for your studies at nearby Djanogly LRC or via Click and Collect from the Research Reserve stores.
Access to resources during the move period will be available by using the Click and Collect service which makes resources available for collection from your preferred library location.
Study space and facilities
Djanogly Learning Resource Centre, a short walk from Business School South, offers a broader range of spaces and facilities including:
- more group study rooms
- year-round access to the 24/7 computer room at the top of the library
- dedicated assistive technology room and equipment loans for students with Support Plans
Denis Arnold Music Library
This summer, the Denis Arnold Music Library will transition away from being a staffed library space. Study areas and resources will remain available.
A new loan process will be introduced ahead of the 2026-27 academic year to ensure continued access to materials. More information about the date of the change will be shared as soon as it is available
If you have questions about library services, you can ask any member of library staff at our other locations as well as via email, phone or live chat.
Improvements to Djanogly LRC
Over the summer, we’ll be making significant improvements at Djanogly LRC to create a more comfortable and modern study environment ready for 2026-27, including a refurbishment of the computer room with new furniture and flooring.
Laptop loans, self-service machines, leisure reading, print devices and student kitchen with microwave, filtered water and hot tap are also available at the library.
Simplified opening hours
We know how confusing library opening times can be. To simplify your library experience, we’re introducing new standard opening times from 1 August 2026 across all libraries, excluding the Manuscripts and Special Collections Reading Room.
- Monday – Friday: 8:00am - 9:45pm
- Weekends: 9:00am - 4:45pm
These standard hours are separate to the extended opening periods at selected libraries during peak times.
The Manuscripts and Special Collections Reading Room will continue to operate separate opening hours. The Reading Room will be temporarily closed until 9 August for relocation within King’s Meadow Campus.
New study areas at George Green and Greenfield Medical libraries
In response to the launch of a new undergraduate programme in the School of Medicine, we’re creating new study spaces at George Green and Greenfield Medical libraries.
These changes are shaped by your feedback and will offer more of the spaces you’ve told us you need including bookable pods, study booths, and collaborative group spaces.
Work starts in June, with the revamped spaces ready to welcome you by September 2026.
