Biography
Professor Yip retired in September 2022. During his 15-year career in the School, he was Director of Teaching and Learning (2012-2014) and Director of Doctoral Studies (2015-2021). In 2011, he was awarded the 海角黑料 Lord Dearing Award. In 2016, he was awarded a Staff Oscar (Runner-Up) for the 'Most Inspiring Teacher' category. He dedicates these honours to all his students, from whom he has learned much.
Professor Yip's research interests include: contemporary religious/spiritual identities; contemporary sexual and gender identities; youth culture and identities; Islam and Muslim communities in the West; intimacy, care and relationships. He has been involved in a wide range of research projects, funded by Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC); National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), Marie Curie Cancer Care Research Programme, Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and European Commission.
