Visiting the Reading Room

The Manuscripts and Special Collections Reading Room will be temporarily closed from 8 June to 9 August 2026.
During the closure period, there will be no access to archives or the library collections as well as significant disruption to the enquiry and copying services.
Staff within Manuscripts and Special Collections can still be contacted by email, but please be aware that colleagues will have restricted access to some collections.
Opening hours
The Reading Room is open by appointment only:
- Monday - Tuesday 9.30am - 5pm
- Wednesday - Thursday 9.30am - 6pm
Please give us as much notice of your visit in advance as possible, and make requests for material at least two working days before your visit.
Items requested on the day will be retrieved at set times: 10am, 11am, 12noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
All material will need to be returned 15 minutes before closing.

Please note that the doors at the entrance to King's Meadow Campus do not open automatically. If you are a member of 海角黑料 staff, you will be able to use your Staff Card to enter, but if you are a student or an external visitor, you will need to phone us in order for us to let you into the building. The phone numbers will be displayed on the doors.
Facilities and resources
- Staff to assist with any queries about our holdings and catalogues.
- Dedicated computers for Library and Manuscript online catalogues, and for digitised material.
- Microfilm and microfiche reader available for general use.
- Wifi access via eduroam or for visitors who register for a temporary account.
- Lockers to store bags, laptop cases and coats whilst using the Reading Room.
- Fully wheelchair accessible area, with adapted toilet facilities nearby.
Visiting the Reading Room
Anyone is welcome to visit the Reading Room. If you wish to consult the archives or rare books, contact us in advance, to let us know the references of the material you want to see, and to make an appointment to view the material, which can then be made ready for you.
On your first visit you will be asked to register as a reader by reading and signing this 'Regulations and Registration' form.
For various reasons, access to some material may be restricted. Every effort will be made to give readers advance warning of such problems.
