All candidates are considered on an individual basis and we accept a broad range of qualifications. The entrance requirements listed apply to 2027 entry.
Required subjects
AAA: must include biology (or human biology) and chemistry.
A pass is required in science practical tests, where these are assessed separately.Ìý
Excluded subjects
We do not accept citizenship studies, critical thinking, general studies, or global perspectives as your third A level subject.  
A level offer
Predicted A level grades, A levels, AS levels, or equivalent are not used as part of the selection process. However, any offers made will be conditional on meeting the A level grades or equivalent required to meet the academic conditions of any offers. A levels must have been studied over a maximum two-year period and three A levels need to have been passed at the required grades in one sitting. This is to demonstrate your ability to manage a full academic workload.Ìý
We’ll also consider resits for up to two A levels as long as: 
- you have completed your A levels in the last 12 months
- you have already obtained at least ABB with at least one A in biology/human biology or chemistry 
- your achieved resit grades meet AAA and include biology (or human biology) and chemistry 
³Ò°ä³§·¡²õ â¶Ä¯
A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade 7 (A), including both biology and chemistry. You must have achieved a minimum of a grade 6 (B) in maths and English language. 
A minimum of six GCSEs should have been studied over a two-year period and the required grades achieved in one sitting.  
We will consider resits for no more than one GCSE subject resit in maths, English language, biology, human biology, chemistry or double science qualifications.
The achieved overall resit grade must be a minimum of Level 6 (B) in maths or English language, and a minimum of Level 7 (A) in biology, human biology, chemistry or double science (7,7) qualifications.

UCAT
The is normally required.
All applicants must sit the UCAT in the same year as the application is made for the course. Applicants who achieve a UCAT SJT grade of Band 4 will not be considered for this course.

Applicants must have an interview in the same year you apply before receiving an offer for the course.

Non-academic conditions of offer
All applicants are required to have an occupational health assessment and a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
All offers are subject to satisfactory occupational health clearance.
Where criminal convictions or professional misconduct are revealed at any point during the selection process, any offer will be subject to review by the Fitness to Practise and Professionalism Leads in the School of Medicine and may be withdrawn.

Fitness to practice
We must be confident in your conduct, health and ability to be professional and interact safely with patients.
As part of your application, you'll be required to have an occupational health assessment and a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
We cannot accept pre-existing DBS checks. More information about this will be sent to you closer to your start date.
If we have any serious concerns we will not offer you a place, and reserve the right to revoke offers should serious concerns arise before starting the course.

UCAS personal statement and reference
All applicants are required to apply via UCAS by 15 October.ÌýThe UCAS personal statement and reference are not used as part of the selection process for interview. The personal statement and reference will be reviewed after interview before offers are made.
Work experience
Applicants are usually expected to complete regular work experience when applying for medicine. This can be:
- volunteering in a care related setting
- volunteering with disadvantaged groups
- paid employment in a job working with the general public
Please note, we are not expecting any in person NHS work experience. Your application will not be negatively affected if you’ve been unable to complete any in person NHS work experience.
We will however be looking for knowledge of the profession and an understanding of the scope of the role of a doctor, and we may ask about this during your interview.
If possible, we'd advise that you speak to someone working in the NHS to ensure you are making an informed choice about your career in medicine.
We expect you to demonstrate a commitment to caring for people and a realistic idea of what working as a doctor entails. It is not part of the selection process
If you are considering a gap year you should use your time constructively, either by working or further preparing yourself for a future career in medicine. The deadline for requesting a deferred start date for the Medicine A100 course is 1 May.
Degrees
If you’re currently studying for a degree:
You can apply for this course (A100) if you already have a degree. The entry requirements for this route are:
- 2:1ÌýhonoursÌýdegree in any subject.
- A-level Biology at grade B for non-bioscience degrees with insufficient biology content.
- a minimum of GCSEÌýGradeÌý6 (B) or equivalent in maths.
The degree should have been completed within the intended length of the qualification – for example, three years for a BSc or four years for an MSc.
We will consider your application if you achieved a 2.2 degree at undergraduate level, if you have also successfully completed or are due to complete a taught master’s degree at merit or above.
Graduates will be able to choose whether to apply for the A100 Five Year course or the A101 Four Year course but will not be able to apply for both courses for the same year of entry.
If you’re currently studying for a degree, you can apply for medicine during any year of your existing studies. Do not withdraw from your current studies as your offer may be conditional on the completion of your current degree.ÌýIf you chose this route, your A levels and GCSEs will need to meet the course entry requirements if you do not achieve a 2.1 degree.
If you need your degree result to be able to meet the academic entry requirements, you may apply through UCAS at the beginning of your final year of study. In these cases, your offer to study medicine will be conditional on achieving the necessary academic requirements. Your current degree must:
- be an honours degree
- evidenced by sending ratified documentation (a copy of your final degree transcript or your certificate) by 6 August
- have been completed within the intended length of the qualification – for example, three years for a BSc or four years for an MSc

Foundation progression options
If you don't meet the grades for this course and meet specific criteria for students from an underrepresented or disadvantaged background , you could apply for ourÌýMedicine at Nottingham with a Foundation Year (A108)Ìýcourse. It's the same great course, but it gives you an extra year to ensure you have the skills you need to succeed in medicine. Please see ourÌýcontextual admissions policyÌýfor more information.
You cannot use other foundation courses at this university or any other university to transfer onto this course.
Please note that if you apply for A100, you cannot apply for A108 in the same year of application.
Alternative qualifications
Unfortunately, BTEC Nationals and the Access to HE Diploma are not accepted for entry on to this course.Ìý

Previous study of medicineÌý
We do not accept applications from students who, for whatever reason, have started and failed to complete the study of a medicine degree at another institution in the UK.Ìý
If a potential applicant has been studying medicine abroad and their course of study has been interrupted due to a non-academic reason, for example, war, we may consider an application through the normal UCAS application process. You must meet the usual academic entry requirements of the course and have taken the UCAT test in the year of your application. The application will be assessed using our normal selection process including an interview. If you are successful at interview, you would be made an offer to start on year one, i.e., the start of the medicine course.
Under 18 policyÌýÌý
We accept students who are 17 years old or above onto the course.Ìý
If an applicant will be under the age of 18 when they register with the university, a parent or legal guardian must complete an under 18 consent form and the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ Under 18 guidance will be followed.
Deferred applicationsÌý
Deferred applications will be considered for the following year of entry onto the course. If you did not apply for deferred entry initially via UCAS, but subsequently wish to defer after receiving an offer, you must request deferral by 1 May in the year of application.ÌýÌý

Requests to transfer onto the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ medicine course from another course at the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ or from a course at another university are not considered.
