RQF BTEC Nationals

Where an offer is made, our standard requirements are:

• BTEC National Extended Certificate and A levels – D with A*A in A level maths, and physics or further maths

We make contextual offers to students who may have experienced barriers that have restricted progress at school or college. Our standard contextual offer is usually one grade lower than the advertised entry requirements, and our enhanced contextual offer is usually two grades lower than the advertised entry requirements. To qualify for a contextual offer, you must have Home/UK fee status and meet specific criteria – check if you’re eligible.

AnÌýEngineering and Physical Sciences foundation yearÌýis available for those who are not taking the required subjects.

If you are successful in applying to study abroad, you will get the opportunity to broaden your horizons and enhance your CV by experiencing another culture. Teaching is typically in English, but there may be opportunities to study in another language if you are sufficiently fluent.

Your study abroad year will include compulsory content matched to what you would have studied in the UK with optional content drawn from modules offered at the host university.

In addition to your study abroad year you can seek summer industrial placements in the other years of the course.

It is not possible to include a full year industrial placement in this course because of the study abroad year.

This is the UK undergraduate tuition fee for the academic year 27/28. It may increase for the academic year 28/29 and we will update our information once we have received confirmation of the fee.

As a student on this course, you should factor some additional costs into your budget, alongside your tuition fees and living expenses:

• BooksÌý- You can access all the essential course books through our libraries and there is usually no need to purchase your own copies. Should you wish to do so, these vary in cost but would be around £30 to £80 per book depending upon whether you buy new or pre-owned, paper or electronic.
• PrintingÌý– There is little need to print as coursework is submitted online and teaching materials provided electronically. If you do wish to print, black and white printing costs 4p per side.
• TripsÌý– The department covers the travel cost of compulsory field trips.
• PPEÌý– This course does not require PPE items to be bought. Workshop PPE is provided to you in the first year for the duration of your course. Any other essential requirements are met with no cost involved.
• Summer work placementÌý- If you do aÌýwork placement, any costs associated with travel or accommodation will need to be factored in as they are not covered by your fees.
• Industrial yearÌý- If you do an industrial placementÌýany costs associated with your year, including travel or accommodation will need to be factored in as they are not covered by your fees.

If you need support to meet the required level, you may be able to attend aÌýPresessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP)Ìýcourse.ÌýOur Centre for English Language Education is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. 

 If you successfully complete your pre-sessional course to the required level, you can then progress to your degreeÌýcourse. This means that youÌýwon'tÌýneed to retake IELTS or equivalent. 

Please note:ÌýFor pre-sessional English, or one-year foundation courses, you must take a Secure English Language Test (SELT) that is recognised by UK Visa and Immigration. This is a requirement for visas for these programmes.
