Our four-year Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) course has been newly redesigned to provide the ultimate preparation for your career as a doctor in an accelerated format, building on your previous life and education experiences. Science of Medicine

This year-long module focuses on ensuring you gain a deep understanding of the scientific foundations of medicine while expanding your clinical skills through increased exposure to clinical environments.

There will be regular primary care teaching, where you will be able to apply your knowledge in real-world healthcare settings. You’ll also undertake small group work, lectures, practical sessions and individual meetings with an Educational Supervisor, all aimed to help develop your abilities to self-direct and plan your own learning.

The module will explore different presenting symptoms each week, which will increase in complexity to enhance your clinical reasoning abilities.

You’ll have a thorough study of clinically relevant physiology, anatomy, biochemistry and pharmacology across various body systems, providing you with a strong foundation for understanding patient care.Ìý


Art of Medicine for Graduate Students

This Graduate Entry induction module provides an intensive orientation and training for graduate students joining the medicine programme.

This module is designed to rapidly align you with the curriculum's core clinical and academic expectations, emphasising Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) milestones, clinical reasoning and foundational science concepts necessary for effective patient care. Through tailored sessions that introduce consultation skills, patient communication and clinical foundations, this module equips you with essential skills and knowledge to seamlessly integrate into the main Science of Medicine module.

Throughout the module, you will explore the key clinical presentations developing a robust understanding of the relevant anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology. This content is carefully mapped to the Science of Medicine module, reinforcing foundational knowledge in a clinically relevant context to support your clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills.

Reflective Practice is also incorporated as a core element of the module. This component supports you in developing empathy, self-awareness and the ability to critically reflect on patient care experiences. Using a student-directed approach, the module fosters independent learning and personal goal-setting, preparing you to understand the broader impact of disease on patients' lives while enhancing your readiness for subsequent modules in the programme.
