Course overview

Our BSc Finance, Accounting and Management with Placement Year degree focuses on how modern firms work and the financial environment they operate in. You’ll gain a solid grounding in areas such as business finance, financial and management accounting and business law. It’s a programme built to develop future business leaders.

From day one, you’ll be equipped with contemporary accounting knowledge and up-to-date practice, including taxation, auditing and advanced financial management. Beyond the conventional finance modules, a stand-out feature of this course are its cutting-edge modules, tackling topics such as AI, fintech and sustainable finance.

This course includes an integrated placement year, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills in a real business environment. In preparation for this, you’ll attend additional workshops in your first and second years. You’ll also have access to professional advice from our dedicated Placements team, who’ll support you throughout your placement.

Introduction to Finance

Understand the fundamental concepts of finance, including the relationship between investment risk and returns, the time value of money and calculating the present value of future cash flows. You’ll cover project appraisal using net present value (NVP), portfolio theory, capital asset pricing model (CAPM) and estimating the cost of capital for equity and bonds.


Business Law

Ever wondered what rules keep companies running – or what happens when things go wrong? This module dives into the English legal system, introducing everything from contracts and workplace rights to the life of a business, from start up to winding up. You’ll explore real-life issues, including situations of harm or loss, and discover how the legal system shapes the world of business.  BUSI1095 Introduction to Economics Explore both microeconomics and macroeconomics  and develop analytical frameworks for evaluating policy instruments. This module helps you understand economic arguments and prepares you for further study in economics by examining different views and evaluating relevant arguments.


Introduction to Digital Business

Dive into the world of computers and IT in business, with a special focus on spreadsheet modelling. Through lab-based assessments and case study group projects, you'll gain hands-on competence in using spreadsheets and understand the impact of computers and the internet, especially in small businesses.


Economic Principles

Explore the microeconomic theory of the market, firm and consumer and the macroeconomic policy agenda. This module develops analytical frameworks for evaluating policy instruments, enabling you to understand and evaluate economic arguments, providing a foundation for further study in economics.


Fundamentals of Financial and Management Accounting

Understand key accounting concepts, the impact of accounting policy selection and the preparation of financial statements and budgets. This module covers double entry bookkeeping, cost concepts, allocation of manufacturing overheads, absorption and variable costing, cost-volume-profit analysis,  budgeting and variance analysis.


Foundational Skills for Economic Study

This module equips students with skills to succeed in the study of economics and beyond. With the help of examples and digital tools, students are introduced to the foundations of working with data, from understanding different data types and sources to visualising and interpreting data. The module fosters critical awareness of ethical issues in the production and use of data with questions about bias, transparency and sustainability.


Quantitative Methods 1B

Develop your skills in mathematical and statistical techniques with topics like calculus, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, partial differentiation, optimisation, probability, random variables and sampling distributions. This module equips you to tackle quantitative challenges in economics and business.


Quantitative Methods 1A

Get a solid foundation in essential mathematical concepts for economics and business. Topics include numbers, algebra, functions, equations, exponents, logarithms, descriptive statistics, differentiation, optimisation and integration, preparing you for further quantitative studies.
