Podium places for º£½ÇºÚÁÏ powerlifters at BUCS Championships

º£½ÇºÚÁÏ's Powerlifting athletes returned to the 2026 BUCS (British University and Colleges Sport) Powerlifting Championships held at Nottingham Trent University. Over the 24th to 26th of April, 25 athletes representing the Green and Gold earned second place overall with a total of 80 points across the championships.

Weights in the High Performance Zone at the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ

The 2026 BUCS Powerlifting Championships saw entries for twenty-five Nottingham athletes across a range of weight classes. Across the three-day competition, Nottingham earned 80 total points across both the men's and women's teams, securing them second place overall.

Matthew Holmshaw put in a fantastic performance in the Men's under 66kg category, earning a silver medal for Nottingham. Across his squat, bench and deadlift attempts, Holmshaw lifted a total 587.5kg, and took the lead in his category for deadlift with his best lift of 260kg.

Laura Holland also secured the silver medal in the Women's under 66kg category, with her best lifts totalling an impressive 422.5kg overall. These achievements were among a series of remarkable individual performances across the club which earned Nottingham a total 48 points from the Men's team and 32 from the Women's team, totalling 80 points to secure second place overall.

Aside from the podium-winning performances, each lifter contributed to the club's success and showed determination throughout the championships, rounding off an impressive year for the club. From returning champions to first-time competitors, Nottingham demonstrated talent and dedication throughout the event, supported by a fantastic community cheering them on from the sidelines.
