Nottingham athletes secure multiple medals at 2026 BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships
The º£½ÇºÚÁÏ’s athletics team delivered another impressive performance at the 2026 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Outdoor Athletics Championships, returning home with medals across track, field, and para-athletics events after competing against some of the country’s strongest university competitors. Across the championships, Nottingham athletes secured one gold medal, two silver medals, and four bronze medals in a successful weekend of competition.

Across the May Bank Holiday weekend, Nottingham Athletics travelled to Cardiff for the 2026 BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships to compete against the leading student athletes across the UK for three days of competition spanning track, field, relay, and para-athletics events. Nottingham once again produced a series of standard performances, bringing home 7 medals across the championships.
Nottingham’s success began in the field events, where Ali Mustafa secured gold in the Men’s Shot Put to claim the university’s only gold medal of the weekend. Archie Small added to Nottingham's success in the throwing events with a bronze medal in the Men's Hammer throw whilst in the women's field events, Dulcie Yelling claimed the bronze medal in the Women's Javelin from another strong performance.
Sport scholar Sean Chigumba was another standout performer across the championships, producing an impressive double podium finish in the wheelchair racing events. Competing in both the Men’s Wheelchair 100m and Men’s Wheelchair 800m, Chigumba secured silver medals in both disciplines to contribute two medals to Nottingham’s overall haul.
On the track, British champion Daniel Goriola secured another podium finish for Nottingham after claiming bronze in the Men’s 110m Hurdles against a highly competitive field of athletes. The women’s 4 x 400m relay team rounded off the championships with another podium-winning performance, securing a bronze medal to cap a successful weekend for Nottingham across both track and field competitions.
Alongside the medal-winning performances, Nottingham athletes had an amazing weekend, with multiple finals appearances and showcasing the strength and depth of their team across multiple disciplines.
