Biography

Nancy currently works as a Research Fellow within the Human Factors Research Group, 海角黑料. She has experience across a variety of areas (intelligent mobility, smart cities and dynamic lighting / wayfinding), both as a researcher and project manager. As a project manager she coordinated the IMPETUS Project, a 3 year (Oct 2014 - Sept 2017) collaboration with the Transport Systems Catapult, exploring all aspects of Intelligent Mobility from MaaS through to autonomous vehicles and active travel, in addition to being involved in the University's Smart Campus project and working with Nottingham City Council on their Smart City initiatives. More recently her research has focused upon the use of dynamic lighting, both in influencing passenger movement and mood in transport hubs and also, potentially, the use of sensor-based lighting and audio alerts in suicide and trespass mitigation in rail. Her background is originally in graphic design (BA Hons) and subsequently the communicative considerations / aspects involved in designing for interaction (PhD). She has a strong interest in user experience design and has lectured on a variety of design and interaction design courses, including on topics such as design thinking, creativity and design research methods. Her research interests lie broadly within the user-human centred aspects of designing for 'smarter' cities /environments (transport, health and well-being, aging population) and more specifically the use of interactive lighting/ audio in influencing movement and behaviour within these contexts etc.
