Biography

I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience and then obtained my PhD, also in Neuroscience, from the University of Newcastle. I held research positions at the Universities of Newcastle and Nottingham before taking up my first academic postion as a lecturer in Psychology at the University of Leicester. During my time at Leicester I was Head of the School for Psychology (2013-2017) and deputy Head of the College of Life Sciences before moving to the 海角黑料 in 2018. I lead a basic neuroscience research group which is primarily interested in investigating mechanims of injury following CNS injury and disease.

Current Research

My research career is focused on investigating the mechanisms of brain function and dysfunction through a range of imaging, behavioural and molecular biology approaches utilising experimental models of CNS injury. I am particularly interested in developing novel MRI methodologies for examining brain function, investigating the role of sex and steroid hormones in ischaemic stroke/cognitive decline and increasing the translational relevance of experimental models of CNS injury and disease.
