Current Research

Ping-An's research focuses on war and society in twentieth-century China and Taiwan. His current project investigates the production and evolution of the military culture that the Republican Chinese state implemented through military socialisation (a process of transforming civilians into military personnel) during the Cold War from the 1950s to the early 1990s. By examining military socialisation in the cultural dimension, this project will fill the knowledge gap in the resilience of the Republican Chinese state during the Cold War and beyond.
