Biography

My research uses Earth Observation, GIS, field data and statistical modelling to understand environmental change, particularly ecosystem responses to climate change and extreme weather events.

My current work focuses on upscaling methane emissions across the Arctic, where large uncertainties remain in how emissions vary across landscapes and through time. I use satellite, drone and ground-based observations to map wetlands, vegetation, surface hydrology and thaw-related landscape features, helping to improve understanding of how permafrost thaw and Arctic landscape dynamics influence methane emissions.

My broader research interests include vegetation response to climate variability, land cover and land use change, ecosystem productivity, wetland and peatland monitoring, and reproducible remote sensing workflows using R, Python and Google Earth Engine. I have also worked on climate resilience in Belize through the ICARUS project, sargassum monitoring in the Mexican Caribbean, tropical peatland subsidence in Southeast Asia, coastal wetland carbon mapping in Mexico, led the CORINE 2018 Land Cover mapping in the UK, and resilience to extreme weather in the Yucat谩n Peninsula.

Current Research

My current research focuses on the use of Earth Observation, drone data, field observations and statistical modelling to improve estimates of methane emissions across the Arctic. This work aims to reduce uncertainty in how methane emissions vary across landscapes and through time, particularly in relation to wetlands, vegetation changes and permafrost thaw dynamics.

Past Research

My past research has applied Earth Observation and GIS to topics including climate resilience in Belize and the Yucat谩n Peninsula, sargassum monitoring in the Mexican Caribbean, tropical peatland subsidence in Southeast Asia, coastal wetland carbon stocks in Mexico, permafrost thaw in the Arctic, and UK land cover mapping. Together, these projects reflect my broader interest in using remote sensing, spatial analysis and environmental data to understand how ecosystems change across contrasting environments, from the tropics to the Arctic.

Future Research

My future research aims to further develop remote sensing approaches for understanding climate-driven environmental change in cold-region and wetland ecosystems. I am particularly interested in combining satellite, drone and field-based data to monitor ecosystem change, improve greenhouse gas emission estimates, and support more robust assessments of climate feedbacks and ecosystem resilience.

I am very interested in linking Earth Observation with field data, climate science and social/environmental disciplines to better assess how ecosystems and communities respond to climate extremes and long-term climate change.
