Old Norse Reading Group - Snotur

Welcome to Snortur, a relaxed Old Norse Reading Group that meets on fortnightly Mondays. Anyone with a semester of ON learning is welcome to join! We meet online so that we can read together no matter where we are.

We read a diverse range of texts from the historical family sagas, saints' lives to the romantic, imaginary and fantastical sagas as well as the poetry and things grammatical.

We collectively discuss and choose what text to look at. More generally, we read wherever the mood takes us and enjoy tailoring our reading to the needs of people’s research.

Recent texts include:

  • Snorri's Edda
  • Hákonar saga Hákonarsonar
  • Hávamál
  • Gunnlaugs saga ormstungu
  • Helgakviða Hundingsbana II
  • Ynlinga saga
  • The First Grammatical Treatise
