You can apply for a number of placement and volunteering opportunities during your studies. Our Arts Placements team have a network companies across Nottingham who work with students to provide them with rewarding and exciting work experience.

In English, we have strong ties to our local communities, working with groups and companies to gain experinece while helping build relationships.
Examples include our various reading groups which help with reading skills and communciation, working with museums, galleries and theatres, and teaching school children about different subjects. Our Vikings for Schools programme is one such example of how our students can have a positive impact on local communities.

All students have the opportunity to take extra, free modules through the Nottingham Advantage Award. Although these modules do not provide credits towards your degree, they will appear on your degree transcript once completed.
These often take place over a semester, but we also offer full year modules as well, depending on the subject.
Topics vary widely from volunteering and gaining valuable work experience to careers skills and mentoring opportunities.

These courses are open to everyone, so that you will have continuned support even after you graduate.
As a student in UoN, you'll have access to our range of short courses designed to improve your understanding of teaching and learning, academic skills, and and gain training in different programs. You can also learn wellbeing techniques and life skills.
We offer a mixture of in-person and online courses, some of which you can complete in your own time at home.
Our Learning Development team are also on hand to support your and provide webinars to help your studies.
We have four research centres here in English which produce globally renowned projects and papers each year. Our students are given the opportunity to be invovled in these research projects. Under the guidance of our academics, you'll be able to experience managing a research project, working with data and information, and learning about the impact of our work. This is a great way to learn valuable skills and more about academia.
