Biography

Dr Lucy Cooker is the Director of Global Engagement for the Faculty of Social Sciences She leads on global engagement and internationalisation in the Faculty. Her research interests are in international schools, international education, learner autonomy, and the use of technology for teaching and learning and supervises PhD and EdD students working in these areas. She teaches on the MA Education.

Previously, Lucy was Director of Taught Courses in the School of Education. With responsibility for all undergraduate and Masters programmes. Prior to this, she held the post of Director of International Teacher Development and was responsible for the PGCEi and for other international teacher development programmes.

Prior to joining the 海角黑料 in 2012, Lucy worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham, and before that she worked at Kanda University of International Studies, in Chiba, Japan, where she set up an award-winning, state-of-the-art self-access learning centre (The SALC).

Lucy is interested in supervising doctoral students researching international schools, international curricula, international education, international teacher identity and learner autonomy.

Lucy is currently co-supervising PhD and EdD students on the following topics:

The majority of Lucy's teaching is on the blended PGCEi and the MA Education (Flexible). She teaches on several PGCEi cohorts, and on the MA Education module Learning through an Additional Language. She also supervises dissertations for MA students on various programmes across the School.

In 2015, Lucy was awarded the Lord Dearing Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Current Research

Lucy is a member of the . Her research interests are in international schools, international education, international teacher identities, and the use of technology in teaching and learning. She is also interested in research methodologies, especially qualitative research methods and Q methodology.

Lucy is currently working on a research project funded by the International Baccalaureate Organization:

Impact of the IB Enhanced Primary Years Programme (PYP) (Co-Investigator) with Dr Jane Medwell (PI), Professor David Wray, Dr Rupert Knight and Dr Yvonna Lavis.

In addition, Lucy is collaborating with Dr Lucy Bailey on a project entitled Teacher Identity in International Contexts.
