Current Research
Dr Bowman's research sits at the intersection of migration, gender, adult education, and higher education capacity strengthening. Her work is centrally concerned with the lived experiences, educational trajectories, and aspirations of migrant women, particularly those navigating language, literacy, integration, and unequal access to learning and opportunity. Her research draws on qualitative and participatory approaches to examine how gender shapes migration experiences, educational participation, and routes into social and economic inclusion. Alongside this, her recent collaborative research with African partners examines gender inequalities in higher education, equitable research partnerships, and knowledge production and dissemination in the Global South.
Across these areas, Dr Bowman's work foregrounds women's voices and experiences in order to inform more equitable policy, practice, and institutional change. Her publications highlight the gendered dimensions of migration, education, leadership, and knowledge production, as well as the value of co-created and transformative research partnerships.
