Postgraduate researcher successfully defends PhD

Congratulations to postgraduate researcher Patricia Lagos for successfully defending her PhD thesis. Voices from the Classroom: Exploring Teacher Experiences of Suicidal Ideation, Systemic Pressures, and Support in England passed with only minor corrections.

The examiners praised the work as a methodologically robust and original contribution that boldly reframes teacher suicidal ideation as an occupational and systemic issue rather than an individual one, making a significant impact across education, suicide research, and occupational health. The viva itself was described as an excellent performance, with Patricia responding confidently and with scholarly maturity throughout.

Excitingly, the research journey doesn't stop there — a new scoping review on Social and Emotional Learning and EdTech is already underway in collaboration with colleagues in the School of Psychology. Patricia has also embarked on a postdoctoral position in Melbourne, Australia, where she is gaining valuable insights into teacher wellbeing and working conditions in a new context.

Well done Patricia.
