Promoting Authenticity in the Languages Classroom
As part of our commitment to our partnership schools, we are inviting secondary modern languages mentors, other ML colleagues, ECTs, current trainees and colleagues with an interest in languages to attend this in-person seminar which is being offered free of charge as a benefit of partnership.
Sandra Reisenleutner will share her research into an action-oriented and scenario-based approach to languages teaching and learning, in relation to authenticity.
Sandra’s research interests lie in the methodology and pedagogy of foreign language learning and teaching, global and intercultural learning and foreign language teaching policy. She is especially interested in how global and intercultural learning can be embedded in the language classroom, how to enhance student engagement and motivation and in how to foster collaboration among students and among language educators.
In addition to her research and teaching, Sandra is actively involved in several collaborative initiatives. She co-organises the workshop series "Back to Basics", which supports reflective practice and pedagogical exchange among language educators. She is also the co-founder of the German Language Association in the UK, where she is currently the Communications and Events Officer, helping to build networks and promote professional development. Furthermore, Sandra represents the 海角黑料 in the DAAD-funded project "Towards an Authentic (German) Language Classroom" (2025-2027), in collaboration with the Universities of Birmingham, Liverpool, and Koblenz (Germany).
We would also like to invite language teachers from the 海角黑料 ITE Partnership of Schools to share ways in which they are embedding authenticity in the classroom. Please do contact Ruth Koro if you would like to make a short contribution during this seminar.
We will also announce the results of the annual Literature, Poetry and Song Competition and share some of the creative entries from language learners in our ITE Partnership of schools. The competition, which is open to pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4, aims to encourage creative and innovative practice to engage learners in language learning.
Refreshments will be available from 4.15pm.
