You can no longer log in with your short university username.
From Tuesday 28 April you will no longer be able to connect to eduroam using your short username (e.g. udzxx) and must use your full university email address e.g. udzxx@nottingham.ac.uk for undergraduate and taught postgraduate students, and forename.surname@nottingham.ac.uk for research postgraduates.
This change ensures that our systems correctly identify your account for Wi-Fi registration, and aligns with security compliance, and seamless roaming across campuses and other institutions.
Why is this changing?
University guidance has always required users to log in to eduroam using their full email address. However, an unintended configuration has previously allowed connections using short usernames (e.g. udzxx). This has led to issues with student Wi-Fi registration, preventing devices from connecting correctly.
This update brings the service fully in line with our published guidance.
What you need to do
If you currently use your short username to connect to eduroam on any device, please follow the steps below before Tuesday 28 April at 12pm to avoid losing wireless access.
- Forget the eduroam network on each of your devices (phone, laptop, tablet, etc.)
- Reconnect to eduroam as normal
- When prompted for your username and password, enter:
- Your full University email address, e.g. lgyxxx@nottingham.ac.uk for undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and forename.surname@nottingham.ac.uk for research postgraduates.
- Your university password
- Accept any security certificate prompts if shown.
Once updated, your device will continue to connect automatically as before.
If you are unable to access eduroam after 2pm on Tuesday 28 April, simply forget the eduroam network on your device and reconnect using your full email address.
