Undergraduate students secure top-three finish at Bentley Motors Logithon
Undergraduate students from Nottingham University Business School recently achieved an impressive third-place finish at the Bentley Motors Logithon 2026, held at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe.
The team of five second-year BSc Business and Management students - Basar Acar, Francesca Hall, Jeffrey Opoku, Shomin Shoy and Yi-Lynn Teh - represented the Business School in the one-day logistics innovation challenge, which brought together university teams from across the UK to undertake real-world business problems.
The Bentley Logithon, designed and delivered by the company’s Logistics Early Careers team, challenged students to develop practical solutions aligned with Bentley’s logistics strategy. This year’s event focused on themes including: sustainability, digital innovation, and risk management within global supply chains.
Tackling real-world supply chain challenges
The Nottingham team was assigned the theme of risk management and asked to address a current industry challenge: how to design a strategic tool to assess and mitigate risk within Bentley’s global supply chain.
Working intensively throughout the day, the students analysed key vulnerabilities in international supply networks, including the increasing impact of geopolitical, environmental and operational risks. Drawing on data-driven approaches and early-warning indicators, they developed a clear and well-evidenced solution designed to improve resilience while balancing cost efficiency.
Supported by Dr Caroline Emberson, Assistant Professor in Operations Management in the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OMIS), the team worked collaboratively to refine their ideas before presenting their proposal to a judging panel of senior Bentley representatives.
The students delivered their final presentation to an audience of more than 50 attendees, including representatives from Bentley Motors and competing teams from seven other universities. Their work was recognised by the judging panel, who awarded the Nottingham team third place.
This achievement highlights both the strength of their analysis and their ability to apply academic learning to a complex, real-world business challenge.
The School wishes to thank Bentley Motors’ Logistics Early Careers team - Olivia Griffiths, Nadia Hulme, Matty Jackson, Alex Miles and Alice Stewart - for organising and hosting the event.
