Inaugural Tri-Campus China Careers Fair showcases global opportunities for Nottingham students

Delivered in a hybrid format, the fair connected students with over 100 employers offering graduate roles and internships in China, including more than 80 organisations attending in person alongside a wider group participating online. The event created opportunities for students to engage with a diverse range of employers and explore career pathways in the region.

Participating employers included PwC, SAP, Hays, Third Bridge, Orient Futures and representatives from the Hong Kong Talent Engage office. The events also created opportunities to build new connections with organisations such as Tencent, Decathlon, Bank of Ningbo, Hero Games, OHFI Investment, Minsheng Bank Ningbo Branch and CITIC Securities.

Additional engagement activities included the Nottingham University Business School Industry Partner Appreciation Gala, the UNNC Summer Placement Programme Agreement Signing Ceremony, employer forums, and meetings with employers in Shanghai to extend the university’s reach.

Skills in demand

Employers identified key skills and attributes they are increasingly seeking in graduates, including:

  • the ability to clearly articulate career motivations and direction
  • strong communication and storytelling skills
  • commercial awareness, particularly knowledge of specific industries and organisations
  • resilience, confidence and independence
  • awareness of AI, digitalisation, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and data trends

These insights will inform ongoing support for students preparing for the Chinese graduate market.

Looking ahead

The event demonstrates the impact of coordinated cross-campus working in supporting student outcomes. Priority areas include strengthening employer partnerships, helping students articulate their career goals, and building the skills needed to succeed in a competitive market.
