- Students can diversify their degree course by choosing a language module for credits. At the Language Centre we focus on providing language modules with the emphasis on communication. The modules are supported by the virtual learning environment Moodle, digital classrooms and a Self Access Centre for independent learning.We offer 10 credit modules in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Slovene and Spanish. The levels range from Stage 1a (complete beginners) to Stage 6 (near native speaker competence). It is possible to improve existing skills or start a new language.

- Martin Broadley, in collaboration with Louise Anders of the British Geological Survey, has won the BBSRC Innovator of the Year 2018 award for international impact. This is a great accolade for Martin and colleagues, whose world-leading research is changing lives in Sub-Saharan Africa. Congratulations to Martin and all who are involved in this brilliant work!

- Henry Scholefield, a second-year student studying BSc (Hons) Agriculture at the º£½ÇºÚÁÏ is the winner of the Beef Student of the Year award presented by the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society in Birmingham yesterday, 23 April. He received a £1,000 award, whilst the university he represented was presented with £1,000 towards a beef educational project.
