Biography

Dr Tim Carter is an NMC registered mental health nurse and BABCP accredited cognitive behavioral therapist. Tim continues to work clinically alongside his full-time academic position, delivering cognitive behavioural therapy for people struggling with a range of difficult experiences, including anxiety disorders, depression, low self esteem, consistent anger, prolonged grief, and PTSD.

Dr Tim Carter teaches predominantly on the postgraduate cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) course, which is accredited with the BABCP and aligned to the national NHS High Intensity Therapist curriculum. Tim also specialises in teaching non therapists about the psychological understandings of mental health and how to undertake psychosocial interventions. Tim convenes several modules across undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, including specialist modules on the delivery of cognitive behavioural therapy treatment

Tim provides academic and clinical supervision to students on a range of topics at all levels of study (Undergraduate to PhD).

Current Research

Tim's research focuses on three main areas: 1)Improving the mental health and well-being of Children and young people; 2) exploring the impact of behavioural and cognitive interventions on mental health conditions across the lifespan and; 3) developing and testing educational interventions to improve the mental health literacy of non-mental health trained healthcare staff.
