Biography

Dr Simon Lawes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, specialising in teaching and curriculum leadership within mechanical engineering education.

Simon's academic interests centre on how students learn in engineering contexts, with a particular focus on the role of learning technology in enhancing that experience. He is currently developing a research programme in this area, with a specific interest in immersive virtual reality as a teaching tool in undergraduate mechanical engineering.

He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and brings extensive experience of curriculum design and development, including leading large-scale programme redesign initiatives at undergraduate level across multiple campuses.
